Article 21 out of 183
One problem that some users have seen is that when they try to add a button that runs a script via Tools|Options|Customize|Commands is that they switch to Corel Ventura Scripts and no names appear in the list of scripts.
At this point, all solutions are anecdotal. But here are the things that have been tried and have worked for at least one person:
-------------------------------
A. First, here's the latest from Allan:
Well, over the years (v10 only) we've tried many-a-thing, all to little success.
But what I've found is this:
- The file getting corrupted is: cvpGlobalItemProp.cfg
- There IS a way to fix it!!! :))
1. Locate C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Corel\Ventura10\[your current workspace]\cvpGlobalItemProp.cfg and rename this file to cvpGlobalItemProp.cfg_old
2. Open Ventura. This will automatically create a new 'clean' version of cvpGlobalItemProp.cfg. [Yes, any customizing that you might have done with icons, etc. will be lost. But keep reading, cuz we'll fix it!]
3. Restart Ventura, open a new publication, and go to Tools|Options|Customize|Commands.
4. Change the commands drop-down to Corel Venutra Scripts, and you should see a complete list without any blanks. If not, this fix may not work for you.
5. Create a new toolbar and drag each and every script in this list onto that Toolbar. Yes, each one. Sure, it's a bit of a chore, but, it's worth the effort. Once the new toolbar is complete, close the Options dialog and close Ventura.
6. Delete the new cvpGlobalItemProp.cfg in your current workspace and rename cvpGlobalItemProp.cfg_old back to the original name. In other words, you're replacing the new one with the old one.
7. Now start Ventura. Then, close Ventura. Then, start Ventura.
That should do it!! (you need to start/close 2x)
Go to the Customize 'Corel Ventura Scripts' list and you should now see a COMPLETE list, with your custom Icons, etc...
If all worked well ... this ought to have fixed your 'cvpGlobalItemProp.cfg' file - I HOPE!

B. Werner Perplies suggests the following fix that has worked on several PCs in varying conditions:
1. Close all programs.
2. Create an empty folder, perhaps with name (e.g., TooManyFonts).
3. Move all Fonts which are not required for Windows or Ventura to that folder.
Windows base fonts include:
++++++++
Arial: Normal, Bold, Black, Bold Italic, Italic
Comic Sans MS: Normal, Bold
Courier New: Normal, Bold, Bold Italic, Italic
Georgia: Normal, Bold, Bold Italic, Italic
Impact
Lucida Console
Lucida Sans Unicode
Microsoft Sans Serif Regular
Modern
Palatino Linotype: Normal, Bold, Bold Italic, Italic
Roman
Script
Symbol
Tahoma: Normal, Bold
Times New Roman: Normal, Bold Italic, Italic
Trebuchet MS: Normal, Bold, Bold Italic, Italic
Verdana: Normal, Bold, Bold Italic, Italic
Webdings
WingDings
Corel Ventura requires these fonts:
++++++++
Copperplate Gothic: BT
MT Extra
Symbol ITC: Bold, Bold Italic
4. Make a copy of the files cvpBar.cfg and cvpGlobalItemProp.cfg (located in C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Corel\Ventura10\[workspace name]. You probably won't need them again, but hang onto them until you are sure.
5. Start Ventura.
6. Check under Tools|Options|Customize. The scripts/extended characters should be visible, so assign/create shortcut keys/buttons/menu items.
7. Close Ventura.
8. Reopen Ventura and check to ensure all shortcut keys/buttons/menu items you created work.
9. Restore the fonts you moved in step 3 to the Windows\Fonts folder.
10. Save the new *.cfg files from C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Corel\Ventura10\[workspace name] to a safe place so you can restore them if problems ever occur.

C. Dominic Hurley couldn't get any other solutions to work, but noticed when he switched to the Default workspace, then back to his customized workspace, the scripts magically appeared. [Note: Dominic had already implemented Allan's solution when he tried this and was still having problems that were affecting some of his page, frame, and character tags as well. He stumbled on the workspace switch and it cured all the ills.]
-------------------------------
D. Abe Hendin noticed that he had over 400 fonts installed when the invisible script problem occurred, so he reduced his number of installed fonts to around 150 -- and the names magically reappeared the next time he went into the Options dialog. Other users having problems with script names and extended characters in the dialog have also reported that this fix worked.
-------------------------------
E. Allan Shearer has experimented a bit more with Abe's solution and has found the following procedure works every time for him:
1. Make sure you have less than 300 fonts installed (e.g., 200). [Note: this step is crucial!]
2. If V10 is open, close it.
3. Move all scripts from the Ventura 10\ventura\Scripts folder to a temporary folder (or subfolder)
4. Start V10.
5. Go to Tools|Options|Customize to see that all scripts are gone.
6. Close V10.
7. Restore scripts from temporary folder to Ventura 10\ventura\Scripts folder.
8. Start V10.
9. Go to Tools|Options|Customize. The script names should (hopefully) be visible.
Thanx to Abe, Allan, Dominic, and Werner for sharing their pain and remedies! If one of these works for you (or something else works), let us know so we can try to narrow in on a standard workaround.
